Loan Watch: Christmas Comes Early

On-loan left-back Paul Dummett helped St. Mirren pick up three points on Friday in their final game before Christmas

On-loan defender Paul Dummett returned to Newcastle for his Christmas break with an early present - three Scottish Premier League points for St. Mirren.

The Buddies were 2-1 winners over second-placed Motherwell on Friday night - a result which moved Danny Lennon's side up to tenth in the table. It was a third win in six games in all competitions for the Paisley outfit, whose only defeat in that period came at the hands of league leaders Celtic.

Dummett had another good game as he dealt well with the threat of pacy winger Chris Humphrey before coming off in the 83rd minute with cramp - the first time he's failed to complete the full 90 minutes for the Saints.

However, Steven Thompson's first-half double proved enough at St. Mirren Park despite Bob McHugh's 77th minute reply.

The Saints face a long trip to Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Boxing Day before another away game at Dundee United on 30th December. The home fixture against Kilmarnock on 2nd December is currently due to be Dummett's final appearance for Buddies, but they are keen to extend his stay in Scotland.
