Krul Ruled Out Until January

Tim Krul is likely to be out until the New Year with an ankle injury, United manager Alan Pardew has confirmed

Goalkeeper Tim Krul is likely to be out until the New Year with an ankle injury, Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has confirmed.

The Dutch international missed Saturday's defeat at West Ham, with Rob Elliot deputising in the 26-year-old's place during the 1-0 reverse at the Boleyn Ground.

And now Elliot, himself a full Irish international, is set to retain the gloves for Tuesday's Barclays Premier League clash with Burnley at Turf Moor (7.45pm kick-off).

"(It will be) weeks, probably, so I think he'll be back mid-January or the start of January if we're lucky," confirmed the Magpies' boss.

"It's a big blow for the players and it's a big blow for us.

"Robbie certainly needed that game at West Ham on Saturday because he hadn't played for a while, and that's where those games in the League Cup are very, very important.

"We've chopped and changed our team for the last seven games and we've won six of them, so we don't fear it. Robbie is more than capable of deputising for Tim and we wish him well."
