Keeping Up With The Jones'

Mike Jones will referee Newcastle's Premier League fixture away at Stoke City on Saturday

Mike Jones will referee Newcastle United's Barclays Premier League fixture away at Stoke City on Saturday (3.07pm kick-off).

It is the fourth time this season the Cheshire-based official has been in charge of a Magpies' match.

He was the man in the middle of September's Capital One Cup third round victory over Leeds United, a 1-1 home draw against Southampton in December, and January's 2-0 top flight reversal by Manchester City.

On that afternoon on Tyneside against City, Jones booked six players, including Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Cheick Tiote, Yoan Cabaye and Moussa Sissoko.

So far during the 2013/14 campaign, the 45-year-old has been appointed to 26 games across the Premier League, Championship, League One, FA Cup and Capital One Cup, issuing 89 yellow cards, three reds and awarding four penalties.

Jones was promoted to the Football League list of referees in 1997 and went on to take charge of the League Two play-off final and FA Trophy in 2007, before moving into the Select Group which officiates in the top flight.

In May 2012, he was the fourth official for referee Phil Dowd at the FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Liverpool.

On Saturday at the Britannia Stadium, Jones will be assisted by Marc Perry and Adrian Holmes, with Paul Tierney the game's fourth official.
