Jonas Gutierrez has urged Newcastle's youngsters to grasp any opportunity with both hands
By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor
Some of United's bright young things returned to pre-season training on Wednesday morning, and Jonas Gutierrez has urged them to grasp any opportunity with both hands.
The likes of Sammy Ameobi, James Tavernier and Haris Vuckic - among others - reported to the Club's Benton-based Training Centre on Wednesday morning for a series of fitness tests, as the squad starts to prepare for the 2013/14 campaign.
That trio all experienced first team football last season and will be hoping to kick on even further this time around, as will promising youngsters like Remie Streete, Bradden Inman and Conor Newton.
And Gutierrez believes they are in the perfect environment to do so on Tyneside.
"They have a great future ahead of them but they have to learn, they have to be clever," explained the experienced Argentine international, who is heading into his sixth season at the Club.
"There is a good opportunity for them here at Newcastle. I wish that when I was their age I was at a club like this one with these chances.
"Players do not always have this opportunity and they should realise how lucky they are.
"They are young and they have to focus on football. They have to learn and to train hard, showing the manager that they can play.
"If they can do that, they are going to be in the squad and will have more and more opportunities."
