Newcastle will kick off their 2012/13 Barclays Premier League campaign with a home game against Tottenham Hotspur
Newcastle United will kick off their 2012/13 Barclays Premier League campaign with a home game against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, 18th August at the Sports Direct Arena.
The managerless North London club - who parted company with Harry Redknapp last week - make the trip to Tyneside on the opening day.
It is a repeat of the Magpies' first ever Premier League fixture way back 19 years ago, when Teddy Sheringham struck the only goal of the game to seal a 1-0 win for Spurs.
When the sides met in the same fixture last season, in October 2011, a late leveller from Shola Ameobi secured a 2-2 draw for Alan Pardew's side. United twice had to come from behind, as Rafael Van Der Vaart and Emmanuel Adebayor had edged the visitors in front, either side of a Demba Ba strike.
It is the ninth time during the Premier League era that Newcastle have been handed a home fixture to kick off the season and of those eight previous games, they have won four of them
