Mike Dean will take charge of Newcastle United's Barclays Premier League fixture away at Aston Villa

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Mike Dean will take charge of Newcastle United's Barclays Premier League fixture away at Aston Villa on Tuesday (7.45pm kick-off).

It is the third time this season the Wirral-based official has overseen a Magpies' match, having been in the middle of a 1-0 home defeat against West Ham in November, followed by Boxing Day's agonising last-gasp 4-3 reverse at Manchester United.

On that afternoon at Old Trafford, Dean booked six players including Newcastle trio Mike Williamson, Danny Simpson and Papiss Cisse.

In total this season, the experienced referee has been appointed to 25 games across the Premier League, Championship and Europa League, handing out 88 yellow cards and five reds.

Dean, aged 44, began officiating in 1985 and progressed through the ranks to the full referees' list in 1997 and the Select Group of referees for the Premier League in 2000.

He has taken charge of the 2004 Community Shield, the 2008 FA Cup final and the 2011 League Cup final.

On Tuesday at Villa Park, Dean will be assisted by Jake Collin and Lee Betts, with Chris Foy the game's fourth official.
