Jeff Henderson has extended his loan spell with Gateshead - but the young defender will also be allowed to play for Newcastle Reserves.
He has put pen to paper on a one-month 'youth loan' which, because he is under the age of 20, means he can play for both Ian Bogie's Blue Square Bet Premier play-off hopefuls and Willie Donachie's table-topping second-string side. It will run until December 7.
The 19-year-old's commitments with the Heed will take priority but in order to help his development, he is likely to be available for selection for the upcoming Barclays Premier Reserve League fixtures against Sunderland, Everton and Blackburn.
However, he'll miss the Northumberland Senior Cup quarter-final tie against Ashington on November 29, as Gateshead are away to Mansfield on the same evening.
Ashington-born Henderson, who was an unused substitute for the Magpies' first-team against Nottingham Forest in the Carling Cup this season, has made five appearances for the Heed and scored on his debut in a 1-0 win at Ebbsfleet.
Former Newcastle midfielder Bogie said: "Henderson proved a capable deputy while captain Ben Clark was injured and we are delighted that he will be staying at Gateshead for another month."
Henderson will be in the Gateshead squad for Saturday's FA Cup first round derby against Blyth Spartans at Croft Park, along with another Magpies loanee, goalkeeper Jak Alnwick.
The game is all-ticket and they are on general sale on Wednesday and Thursday at the International Stadium ticket office between 11am and 2pm and 5pm and 8pm.
