Heaney Starts As England Are Held

Written by Newcastle Utd

Mackenzie Heaney played the full game as England under-17s took on Germany in the Algarve Tournament on Sunday

Mackenzie Heaney played the full game as England took on Germany on Sunday afternoon in their second game of the Algarve Tournament.

But despite surging into a two-goal lead, the Young Lions had to settle for a draw in Lagos.

A first-half brace from Sheffield Wednesday striker George Hirst had put Steve Cooper's side in a commanding position and Ipswich Town keeper Nick Hayes kept England's lead intact with a penalty save in the second half.

But a late fightback from the Germans, and goals from Florian Baak and Renat Dadashov, ensured that the game ended all square - just like England's first match of the competition, Friday's 1-1 draw against Portugal.

England will play their final game of the tournament, against the Netherlands, on Tuesday afternoon.
