Haris is The FIFA King

Written by Newcastle Utd

Haris Vuckic came out on top in Monday night's FIFA 13 Fan Challenge at Shearer's Bar to be crowned the best player in town

Monday night's EA SPORTS FIFA 13 Fan Challenge at Shearer's bar was a huge success as 64 fans came together to battle it out for the chance to play the winner of the players' very own four-man tournament, and Haris Vuckic emerged as the overall winner.

The fans were all placed into groups of four, with the winner of each group going through to the last 16. The tournament was then whittled down to the two finalists, Dan Woolett - who played with Manchester United throughout the tournament - and James McMorran, who played with Manchester City. In an entertaining final on the showcase screen it was Dan who was victorious, winning 3-1. He went on to play the winner of the players' tournament.

After a few practice games on the showcase screen, the players were given their draws. James Perch (Manchester City) played Sammy Ameobi (Chelsea) with 'Perchino' scraping through on penalties. The other semi was contested between Ryan Taylor (Arsenal) and Haris Vuckic (Newcastle). Early tournament favourite Taylor was put to the sword by the ruthless Vuckic, who went through to the Player Final.

And, with fans cheering on both players, it was Vuckic who came out on top beating Perch's Man City with a Cisse winner on 60 minutes. Haris then went on to play Dan, the victor of the fans tournament.

The grand final was the last match of the evening and both players showed why they had won their respective tournaments. With a large crowd watching, including support for Haris from Perch, Taylor and Ameobi, it was Haris who came through, winning 2-1 against Dan.

There were some fantastic prizes on offer all night, starting off with each entrant receiving a limited edition Newcastle United FIFA 13 cover. All quarter-finalists were handed a copy of FIFA 13, semi-finalists won a pair of West Brom tickets and the losing finalist was consoled with upgraded VIP hospitality tickets for the Baggies game.

The winner of the fans' tournament won a signed Newcastle United shirt and also a PlayStation3 courtesy of EA SPORTS.

Overall winner Vuckic, who is currently recovering from injury, said: "I've had a bit of time to practice recently and although I'd much rather be able to play football for real, I do love FIFA and it's nice to prove that I am the best player at the club.

"Dan gave me a tough game but it was good to win. It was a really fun night and all the lads enjoyed themselves, and I hope the supporters did too."
