Gosling To Skipper Second-String

Written by Newcastle Utd

Newcastle under-21s look to make it ten games unbeaten when they take on Norwich on Monday, knowing a win would take them top of the league

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Dan Gosling will captain Newcastle United under-21s as they take on Norwich on Monday (kick-off 1pm) looking to extend their unbeaten run to ten matches.

The ex-Everton man is one of four players in the Magpies squad to have played in the Barclays Premier League this term, along with Gael Bigirimana, Adam Campbell and James Tavernier.

Gosling - who is named as an overage player at the Canaries' Colney training ground - scored twice when United beat the Canaries 6-0 at this level last season and netted a late equaliser when Willie Donachie and Peter Beardsley's side drew at Reading last month.

A win for Newcastle would take them top of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League Tier Two table with one game to play and coach Donachie is hoping to extend their campaign into next month.

"If we win the league we go into the play-offs but I'm trying not to talk about that," he told nufc.co.uk. "We're just taking each game at a time.

"I always want to win but it's just one game at a time - the old cliche but that's true. We just want to keep winning games and see what happens."

Kevin Mbabu misses out with a knock, while Academy player Macauley Booth receives his first call-up at this level. Lubo Satka is back after representing Slovakia under-19s in a friendly double-header against Cyprus.

The squad is: Rolando Aarons, Jak Alnwick, Gael Bigirimana, Macauley Booth, Adam Campbell, Lee Desmond, Alex Gilliead, Dan Gosling, Brandon Miele, Jonathan Mitchell, Greg Olley, Jonathyn Quinn, Michael Richardson, Lubo Satka, Jamie Sterry, James Tavernier
