Newcastle midfielder Dan Gosling made his first start for England Under 21s as they came from a goal down to beat Israel 4-1 in a friendly on Monday night.

The 21-year-old started for Stuart Pearce's young lions at Oakwell, the home of Championship outfit Barnsley and played for 62 minutes before being replaced by Aston Villa's Gary Gardner.

Mohammad Kilbat gave Israel a first half lead in front of more than 9,000 supporters, but England hit back strongly after the break.

Martyn Waghorn levelled things up, before Watford starlet Marvin Sordell edged the hosts ahead on the hour mark. Late strikes from Nathan Delfouneso - from the penalty spot - and Henri Lansbury put the result beyond any doubt and England their second win in five days.

For Gosling it was more game-time as the youngster continues his rehabilitation from a long-term injury which ruled him out of almost the whole of the 2010/11 campaign. He impressed in pre-season for the Magpies and has tasted action already this season against Sunderland in the Premier League and Scunthorpe in the Carling Cup.
