Goldsands Is New Ground In Premier League Era

Written by Newcastle Utd

Bournemouth's Goldsands Stadium will become the 53rd different Premier League venue to stage a Newcastle game when United play there in November

Steve McClaren's Magpies will make the long trip to newly-promoted Bournemouth on Saturday, 7th November for what will be Newcastle's first top-flight visit to the Goldsands Stadium (formerly known as Dean Court).

It will be a new ground for many United fans and the Cherries will become the 46th different club that the Magpies have faced in the Premier League.

Their 11,700-capacity stadium will become the 53rd different Premier League venue to host United.

But Newcastle have played at Dean Court before - most recently in an FA Cup third round tie in January 1992.

That finished 0-0, but United lost the replay at St. James' Park following a penalty shoot-out.

In September 1989, Newcastle lost 2-1 despite a Mick Quinn goal while the Magpies were beaten by the same scoreline in the League Cup in November 1963.

Ron McGarry scored what proved to be a consolation for the visitors.

That means Newcastle have never won at Bournemouth - but McClaren will be determined to make United's first Premier League visit a successful one.
