Academy forward Alex Gilliead was unable to inspire England Under 17s to victory in their final match of the Algarve Tournament on Tuesday.

The young starlet, who turned 17 on Monday, started wide on the right of a three-man attack against Holland, but was substituted at half-time as Dutch captain Damian van Bruggen's early penalty proved the difference between the sides in a 1-0 defeat.

It capped a trio of losses for the Young Lions, who had also fallen to a couple of 2-1 reverses against Germany and hosts Portugal.

Gilliead was an unused substitute in the first match, but featured in England's final two matches - both from the start.
