Alan Pardew expects Yoan Gouffran to return to training next week following the injury which saw him stretchered off against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
The Frenchman required oxygen as he was carried from the White Hart Lane pitch after being caught by Kyle Walker, and there were initial fears that he could have broken his right leg.
However, a precautionary X-ray immediately after the match showed that this was not the case and he was able to join his team-mates for the flight back to the North-East on Saturday afternoon.
And after further assessment from the Club's medical staff, Pardew confirmed: "That's all good news, fortunately. We think he'll train on Monday."
Gouffran has already played for Bordeaux in the Europa League, meaning he would have missed Thursday night's game against Metalist Kharkiv regardless, but he could now come into contention for the next Barclays Premier League game at Southampton.
