Foy's The Boy At Upton Park

Chris Foy will take charge of Newcastle United's Barclays Premier League trip to West Ham on Saturday

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Chris Foy will take charge of Newcastle United's Barclays Premier League trip to West Ham United on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

It is the fourth time this season the Lancashire-based official has refereed a Magpies match, having overseen a 2-1 home victory over West Brom at the end of October, a 7-3 defeat away at Arsenal in December and a 4-2 Tyneside triumph against Southampton in February.

On that afternoon at St. James' Park, Foy booked four players - all from the Saints.

During the 2012/13 campaign he has been in the middle of 30 games across the Premier League, FA Cup, Capital One Cup, Championship, League One and League Two, handing out 62 yellow cards, two reds and awarding seven penalties.

Foy started officiating in 1983 and worked his way up the ranks before becoming a Premier League referee in 2001 - with his first appointment coming in December of that year as Bolton and Charlton played out a goalless draw.

The 50-year-old was in charge of the 2009 League Cup final and the following year's FA Cup final, and is widely regarded as one of the country's best referees.

On Saturday at Upton Park, Foy will be assisted by Ron Ganfield and Matthew Wilkes, with Phil Gibbs the game's fourth official.
