Tim Krul believes that he will be "right up to speed" by the time Newcastle kick off their Barclays Premier League campaign at Manchester City after making his comeback against Rangers on Tuesday night.
A dislocated shoulder ruled him out of the final month of last season and he only recently returned to full training before playing the opening 45 minutes at Ibrox as United drew 1-1 in Glasgow.
Despite being beaten by an early Lee McCulloch penalty, he showed no ill effects from his long lay-off and is set to play again when the Magpies host SC Braga on Saturday.
And, speaking to nufcTV after the Rangers match, Krul admitted: "It's been a long time so it was nice to get my first 45 on the go again.
"Of course I need a couple more games to get to full fitness, but we've still got two weeks until the start of the season and a few hard training sessions will get me right up to speed.
"I'll probably play another few minutes (against Braga) - it all adds up so hopefully I'll get some game time there as well."
The Holland international goalkeeper added: "I've had a good summer, a lot of rehab, and I feel really good in my shoulder so that's the most important thing. I'm raring to go and can't wait for the season to start.
"It's coming close now but the boys are feeling good. We've done a lot of hard work this week so the lads will definitely feel the benefit."
