Everything you need to know about Newcastle United's new signing Siem de Jong

 

- Siem was born in Aigle, Switzerland, on 28th January, 1989

- He is the older brother of Borussia Monchengladbach striker Luuk de Jong, who spent six months on loan at Newcastle during the second half of the 2013/14 campaign.

- After moving to Holland, and the city of Doetinchem, at the age of six, Siem joined local club DZC'68 before switching to De Graafschap, where he stayed until 2005.

- De Jong was then picked up by the famous Ajax youth set-up and rose through the ranks of the renowned Academy to make his first team debut in September 2007, as a substitute against Kozakken Boys.

- From there, he went on to become a regular in the Ajax midfield, making 244 appearances in all competitions over seven seasons, scoring 78 goals.

- In the summer of 2012, Siem was appointed Ajax captain following the departure of Jan Vertonghen to Tottenham Hotspur, and led the Amsterdam giants to the Eredivisie title in 2012/13 and 2013/14.

- In total, he has picked up four league titles in Holland - in consecutive years from the 2010/11 campaign. He also lifted the KNVB Cup in 2010 and the Johan Cruyff Shield in 2013.

- De Jong has represented Holland at every level from under-17 to the senior side, making his senior debut in August 2010 in a friendly against Ukraine.

- He was named in the Netherlands' provisional squad for Euro 2012 but did not make the final selection.

- To date Siem has six caps, with his two international goals coming in the same match - a 3-0 friendly victory over Indonesia in June 2013.
