Adam Armstrong has been rewarded for his fantastic start to the season with a call-up to the England squad for the UEFA Under-17 Championships first qualifying round later this month.

The 16-year-old forward has scored five times in five Barclays Under-21 Premier League outings this term, while he also scored for the Young Lions against Turkey in the FA International Tournament in August.

Coach John Peacock was at St. James' Park to see the former Walbottle Campus Technology College pupil net against Everton's second-string last month and has named him in an 18-man squad for the trip to Armenia for three matches in five days.

Armenia are first up on Thursday, 24th October before England play Gibraltar two days later in what will be the first international meeting between the two nations.

The final game on Tuesday, 29th October sees the Republic of Ireland provide the opposition with two of the four nations going through to the next stage - the Elite qualifying round. The Championships themselves will be held in Malta next May.

Goalkeeper Freddie Woodman misses out on the squad due to injury.

The squad is: Dean Henderson (Manchester United), Ryan Huddart (Arsenal), Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (Manchester United), Tom Brewitt (Liverpool), Mandela Egbo (Crystal Palace), Joseph Gomez (Charlton Athletic), Jonjo Kenny (Everton), Max Lowe (Derby County), Callum Cooke (Middlesbrough), Isaac Christie Davies (Chelsea), Ryan Ledson (Everton), Seyi Ojo (Liverpool), Josh Onomah (Tottenham Hotspur), Jordan Rossiter (Liverpool), Adam Armstrong (Newcastle United), Isaiah Brown (Chelsea), Patrick Roberts (Fulham), Dominic Solanke (Chelsea).
