Dyer Departs

Former Newcastle midfielder Kieron Dyer has been freed by Queens Park Rangers after eight appearances in 18 months

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Kieron Dyer has left Queens Park Rangers after the West London club opted to activate a release clause within his contract.

The former Newcastle midfielder made eight appearances - only four of them starts - since joining the R's in July 2011 and has left with immediate effect despite scoring his first goal for the club in the FA Cup draw with West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.

Dyer, now 34, joined the Magpies from Ipswich in 1999 and spent eight largely successful seasons at St. James' Park, making 252 appearances in all competitions and scoring 36 goals.

But since leaving Tyneside for West Ham in 2007, he has been restricted to just 18 league starts for the Hammers, QPR and former side Ipswich during a brief loan spell in 2011.

Harry Redknapp told the official QPR website: "I'd like to thank Kieron for his services to QPR.

"If he can stay clear of injuries I'm sure there's clubs out there that will offer him the chance to play football. He wasn't in my plans and I think he's got something to offer someone, so we wish him all the best."
