Dummett Returns

Written by Newcastle Utd

Paul Dummett has returned to Newcastle following his fruitful loan spell with St. Mirren, and is in the Magpies squad to face Brighton on Saturday

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Defender Paul Dummett has returned to Newcastle at the end of his loan spell with Scottish Premier League side St. Mirren and has been included in Alan Pardew's squad for their FA Cup with Budweiser third round tie at Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 21-year-old left-back joined the Buddies in August and played 19 times, scoring twice and helping them to the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup, and his impressive displays have seen him recalled by the Magpies.

Dummett, who spent part of last season on loan with Gateshead in the Blue Square Bet Premier League, has played in a handful of pre-season friendlies for Newcastle and was an unused substitute at Nottingham Forest in the Carling Cup last season, but has yet to make his competitive debut for United.

However he will hope to follow the lead of James Tavernier, whose performances during loan spells with Gateshead, Carlisle United, Sheffield Wednesday and MK Dons helped push him into the first-team picture at St. James' Park.
