Dummett Looking To Build On Breakthrough

Paul Dummett is confident that making his international debut last month will help him to improve even further in the season ahead

Paul Dummett believes that making his international debut for Wales last month will help him to become even better for Newcastle United next season.
The 22-year-old former Kenton School pupil came off the bench for Chris Coleman's side against Holland at the Amsterdam ArenA to cap a remarkable breakthrough campaign.
He had not even played in the Barclays Premier League this time last year - his league bow for United came on the opening day of last term at Manchester City - but signed a new contract with his boyhood side in November on the back of his impressive performances.
And, according to Dummett, sharing a pitch with the likes of Arjen Robben, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Wesley Sneijder while wearing the red of Wales is sure to improve him further still.
"It's going to give me confidence going forward that I'm good enough to not only play in the Premier League but also the international stage," he told nufc.co.uk.
"That can only help you as a player."
Alan Pardew's players will start to return to Benton for pre-season later this week, with Dummett determined to continue making strides over the next few months.
"I never thought at the start of last season that I would do what I did," he said.
"I played 21 games and started 11 in the Premier League, then made my international debut.
"And I also signed a new contract with the team that I love, so for me it was a brilliant season."
