Dummett Delighted With Palace Triumph

Written by Newcastle Utd

Paul Dummett spoke to nufc.co.uk after helping the Magpies to three crucial points and a clean sheet on Saturday

By Dominic Scurr

Paul Dummett was "very happy" to help his Newcastle United climb out of the Barclays Premier League relegation zone with a 1-0 home victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

A superb second half free-kick from Andros Townsend, followed by Karl Darlow's penalty save at the other end, saw the Magpies come away with three valuable points in their bid to beat the drop.

And with just two games remaining, Dummett knows just how important the win could prove to be.

"It was a game that we had to win, regardless of what went on elsewhere," the full-back told nufc.co.uk after the final whistle.

"I'm very happy - mentally it's good for the team to be out of the bottom three for the first time in a while.

"I'd say it was a fair result as well. Every player has worked their hardest and deserved to be on the winning side.

"The games before were the same, we've been playing with more belief and desire but we know that we should have been playing like this since the start (of the season)."

Dummett also pointed out two big moments that could prove pivotal in United's season.

"It was a moment of class from Andros that got us the goal that we needed," continued the Magpies' defender.

"It was cagey in the first half but we kept going and tried to control the game. They played a lot of long balls but I think we dealt with them well.

"I didn't really see much of (the penalty) at the time but credit to Karl - he's produced a massive save for us.

"It's a huge confidence booster for him because Yohan (Cabaye) very rarely misses penalties.

"But it was a team effort, everyone worked their hardest and fortunately for us we have got players in our team who are capable of getting us three points.

"Now we just need to concentrate on ourselves and don't start worrying and relying on other teams.

"As long as we win our games, I'm confident we will stay in the Premier League."
