Mathieu Debuchy was left to rue two costly errors as Newcastle United slipped to a 2-1 home defeat against Swansea City on Saturday.
The Magpies were in control of the contest at St. James' Park after Shola Ameobi's opener midway through the first half.
But Wilfried Bony's unchallenged header from a corner drew the visitors level right on the stroke of half-time, and the Ivorian striker then went on to net a last gasp penalty, snatching all three points in the process.
"Everyone is very disappointed, of course," Debuchy told nufc.co.uk after the final whistle on Tyneside.
"We wanted to go out there and get a win, so to lose - and in that manner, with a last-minute penalty - was really disappointing. It is always harder to take like that.
"I think we deserved at least a draw from that but we have to look back at the mistakes we made.
"We lost from two set pieces - a corner and a penalty - and that is nowhere near good enough."
On his first appearance in seven weeks following a groin complaint, Debuchy impressed as an early substitute for the injured Papiss Cisse.
However, the French international was disappointed not to be able to turn around United's poor run of form, which now stands at five successive top flight defeats.
"I have never known five defeats in a row," said Debuchy.
"It is something which isn't acceptable for a club like Newcastle United and a squad like ours. It is something we simply should not be doing.
"I watched every match (while I was injured) and it has been tough, very tough.
"I find it difficult because whether I am injured or suspended, I just want to be out there playing, helping my teammates and giving them everything I can.
"It was nice to be back today to try and help but the result was very disappointing."
