Davide's Delight At Country Call

Newcastle United defender Davide Santon is delighted to be back in the Italian senior international fold, after 20 months away

Newcastle United defender Davide Santon is delighted to be back in the Italian senior international fold, after 20 months away.

One of the Magpies' stand-out performers this term, Santon's last senior cap came in March 2011, although he has represented his country's under 21 side since.

And it is his form on Tyneside during the early part of the 2012/13 campaign which has led to the 21-year-old being in line to face France in a friendly on Wednesday night in Parma.

"I am so happy because it has been a really long time since I was in the senior international team," Santon told nufc.co.uk, ahead of linking up with the Azzurri.

"It will be really nice, especially if I play against my friend Yohan (Cabaye, who is in the French squad).

"Even though it is a friendly, we want to win and I am excited for the match and to see all my friends from Italy. But I want to come back from the game and then get a win for Newcastle against Swansea.

"My team is Newcastle and I want to win games here first of all. If we are winning and I am playing well then I will hopefully continue to make the Italy squad."
