Newcastle's Under-21 Premier League Cup tie against Everton will be played on Monday, 21st December.

Peter Beardsley's side will travel to Southport's Merseyrail Community Stadium - formerly known as Haig Avenue - for a 7pm kick-off.

More details, including ticket prices, will be announced in due course.

Newcastle's last second-string visit to Everton came in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League play-offs, when United travelled to Goodison Park in May 2013.

A young John Stones and Ross Barkley were both in the Toffees side, while the Magpies included Sammy Ameobi and Kevin Mbabu. Rolando Aarons appeared as a substitute.

Everton won 5-3 on penalties following a thrilling 3-3 draw after extra time.

The sides also met at St. James' Park in September 2013. Adam Armstrong scored United's goal in a 1-1 draw.
