Danny Makkelie will referee Newcastle United's Europa League home fixture against Maritimo on Thursday (8.05pm kick-off).

The Dutch official takes charge at St. James' Park as the Magpies look to continue their unbeaten start to their Group D campaign and secure qualification to the knock-out stage of the competition.

Makkelie, aged 29, has overseen 17 games so far this season across the Champions League, Europa League, World Cup qualifiers, Eredivisie and Jupiler Pro League, handing out 65 yellow cards and nine red cards in the process.

On Thursday, Makkelie will be assisted by Berry Simons and Patrick Langkamp, with Ed Janssen and Dennis Higler the additional assistant referees behind each goal.

Davie Goossens will be the game's fourth official.
