Coloccini's Red Card Overturned

Written by Newcastle Utd

Newcastle United's appeal against Fabricio Coloccini's dismissal at Sunderland has been successful

Newcastle United's appeal against Fabricio Coloccini's dismissal during Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby fixture at Sunderland has been successful.

The Magpies' captain was given a straight red card during first half injury-time by referee Robert Madley following an incident involving Sunderland's Steven Fletcher, which resulted in the awarding of a penalty kick.

The Football Association's Regulatory Commission upheld Newcastle's appeal on Tuesday afternoon and Coloccini will now be available for selection for Saturday's Premier League fixture with Stoke City at St. James' Park.

Meanwhile, the Club has been charged for failing to control their players in relation to their reaction to the match official's decision.

The Club have until 6pm on Friday, 30th October, to respond to the charge.
