Colo: 'More To Come From New Boys'

Written by Newcastle Utd

Fabricio Coloccini knows that it can take time to adapt to the Premier League, but is backing Newcastle's January signings to be even better next term

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

It can take time for a foreign player to adapt to the Barclays Premier League - and Fabricio Coloccini knows that better than most.

And the Argentine defender has backed Newcastle's January signings to hit the ground running next season after helping United to beat the drop this time around.

One of them, Yoan Gouffran, scored the vital winner against Queens Park Rangers on Sunday while the likes of Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Mathieu Debuchy and Moussa Sissoko have put in some impressive displays and Massadio Haidara has shown his undoubted potential.

But Coloccini, who initially stuggled in the English top flight before growing into a curly-haired colossus once he found his feet, believes there is more to come from all five next term.

Summer arrivals Vurnon Anita and Romain Amalfitano will also hope to push on in the months ahead, in much the same way as Davide Santon and Sylvain Marveaux began to show their true class during the current campaign after slow starts to their respective Tyneside careers.

"That's normal," explained Coloccini. "The same happened with me - the first year was very difficult.

"But I think the players who came, they are doing very well. It's quicker and maybe they feel a bit tired but it's normal.

"And next year they will be better for it."
