Colo Gets Argentina Call-Up

Written by Newcastle Utd

Fabricio Coloccini returns to the Argentina squad, and is one of eight United players called up by their countries

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Fabricio Coloccini is back on the international scene, after being called up for Argentina's friendly against Germany on Wednesday, 15th August.

United's skipper - who was named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for the 2011/12 season - made his senior international debut for La Albiceleste nine years ago, and went on to win Olympic gold in 2004 before representing his country at the 2006 World Cup.

Coloccini, aged 30, wasn't selected in the Argentine 2010 World Cup squad and has not been involved for the last few years. But the classy centre-back now has the chance to add to his 34 international caps in the friendly fixture, which will be played in Frankfurt.

Coloccini is one of seven Newcastle players who could be turning out for their nation on 15th August, three days before the start of the new season.

French duo Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa have both been named in Didier Deschamps' first squad as head coach of Les Bleus. The pair, who appeared at Euro 2012 this summer, will face Uruguay in a friendly at Le Harve.

Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba are in the Senegalese party which will go head-to-head with Burkino Faso in friendly action, while Cheick Tiote and the Ivory Coast travel to Moscow for a friendly against Russia.

And teenage midfielder Haris Vuckic will be looking to catch the eye for Slovenia Under 21s in their European Championships qualifier against Ukraine, in Kiev.

Meanwhile, Academy defender Lubomir Satka is part of the Slovakia Under 18 squad which will compete in the Jezkov Memorial Tournament, in Ostrava, Czech Republic, from 19th-25th August.
