Colback Laments Game Of Two Halves

Written by Newcastle Utd

Jack Colback was left to lament a game of two halves as United kicked off 2015 with a draw against Burnley

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Goalscorer Jack Colback was left to lament a game of two halves as Newcastle United kicked off 2015 with a 3-3 draw against Burnley.

Having led three times at St. James' Park, through Steven Taylor, Colback and Moussa Sissoko, the Magpies were pegged back on each occasion by a resilient Clarets outfit.

And Colback admitted that, after dominating the first period, United 'threw away' their chance of victory after the interval.

"Coming into the game we wanted all three points but based on our second half performance, we were probably lucky to get a point really," the midfielder told nufc.co.uk.

"When you lead three times, especially at home, you should see the game out. But maybe the timing of it, with the amount of games we've had, showed a bit.

"We made mistakes on the ball that we don't usually make. The most disappointing thing was that we played really well in the first half but just didn't play at all in the second - we played into their hands.

"What they do, they do well, and they caused us problems. We ended up throwing away the chance to win."

When Colback found the back of the net midway through the first half, it was his second goal for Newcastle - his first coming just five days earlier against Everton.

And while the summer signing was happy to be on the scoresheet once more, he was disappointed it didn't lead to a further three points.

"It's funny how goals come along like that," said Colback.

"Having scored against Everton, I was confident coming into this one and fancied myself to get another goal.

"As soon as I hit it I knew it had a chance (of going in). I was obviously delighted to score but was just disappointed that it didn't help us win the game.

"We went into these two games looking to get six points but every game is tough.

"A lot of people would have been looking at the Burnley game and expecting an easy afternoon and three points, but they have shown over the season that they are a tough team to play against.

"They never give up and thoroughly deserved their point."
