Colback Becomes Number Eight

Written by Newcastle Utd

Jack Colback has become the eighth player to represent both United and Sunderland in the Premier League era

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

On Sunday, Jack Colback became the eighth player to represent both Newcastle United and Sunderland in the Barclays Premier League era.

The Killingworth-born midfielder crossed the Tyne-Wear divide to join the Magpies in the summer and was impressive on his competitive debut in the black-and-white striped shirt.

And while Colback joins a long list of United stars to have also worn the red and white of their local rivals throughout history, only seven others have done it since the inception of the Barclays Premier League in 1992.

Fellow midfielder Paul Bracewell is on that list, while four of the others are strikers -  Michael Bridges, Michael Chopra, Andrew Cole and Louis Saha.

Seven others to represent United and Sunderland in the Premier League era

Paul Bracewell (48 PL appearances for United, 38 for Sunderland)

Titus Bramble (105 PL appearances for United, 47 for Sunderland)

Michael Bridges (6 PL appearances for United, 25 for Sunderland)

Steven Caldwell (26 PL appearances for United, 24 for Sunderland)

Michael Chopra (21 PL appearances for United, 39 for Sunderland)

Andrew Cole (58 PL appearances for United, 7 for Sunderland)

Louis Saha (11 PL appearances for United, 11 for Sunderland)
