Cisse At The Double

Written by Newcastle Utd

Papiss Cisse scored twice for Senegal on Sunday while Gael Bigirimana and Fabricio Coloccini were also in international action at the weekend

In-form Papiss Cisse scored both goals as Senegal beat Liberia 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Monrovia on Sunday.

The Newcastle striker, who had also netted in the previous weekend's draw with Angola, opened the scoring from the penalty spot after 19 minutes before adding a second in the 54th minute.

He was then substituted ten minutes later, having picked up a yellow card just before half time. Senegal sit top of their group with nine points from five games.

The Ivory Coast are also on course for a place in next year's finals after a 4-2 win over Tanzania but Cheick Tiote was not involved.

Meanwhile, Gael Bigirimana started as England warmed up for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup with a 3-0 practice match win over Uruguay.

In what was effectively a training game, the Magpies youngster was replaced by Everton's Ross Barkley at half-time before returning to the field in the 78th minute in place of Manchester United's Tom Thorpe. He will hope to have done enough to earn a start in the tournament opener against Iraq next Sunday.

On Friday, Fabricio Coloccini played the whole game as Argentina beat Guatemala 4-0 in a friendly. Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick and made the other for Augusto Fernandez.
