Cheick Confident Of Future Wins

Cheick Tiote was proud of United's performance at Stoke and believes they will soon be picking up victories

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Cheick Tiote believes Newcastle United showed signs of getting back to their best at Stoke on Wednesday, despite suffering a 2-1 reversal.

The Magpies were well worth their first win since the end of October, and looked on course for it when Papiss Cisse slotted them into a second half lead.

But late goals from Jonathan Walters and Cameron Jerome snatched victory for the Potters and left United pointless for the fourth successive Premier League match.

Tiote was proud of his teammates' display at the Britannia Stadium and insists that more performances like that will yield the victories they deserve.

"This was so difficult for the team to take," Tiote told nufc.co.uk.

"Tonight we played well and were the best team on the pitch.

"We tried to pass the ball well and scored the first goal, but after that we were unlucky because it was two sloppy goals that cost us the game. Everyone is very disappointed.

"We were much brighter than we have been recently and had more energy on the pitch.

"If you play well like we did tonight then you expect to win the game so if we continue to play like this we will get three points again very soon."
