Yohan Cabaye has run the rule over Newcastle United's start to the season and admitted: 'We must do better'.
The Magpies currently lie tenth in the Barclays Premier League table and within touching distance of the top six, but are yet to find the consistency of last term that was rewarded with a place in the Europa League.
There have been plenty of positives to take from the season to date, however, including victories over Tottenham and West Brom, as well as impressive draws at Everton and Liverpool.
But French international midfielder Cabaye knows there is plenty of room for improvement and believes United haven't been helped so far by the loss of key players like Tim Krul, Fabricio Coloccini and Cheick Tiote at various points.
"It has not been bad, but it has not been good enough either," Cabaye told nufc.co.uk about Newcastle's opening 11 league fixtures.
"We have played well but we can play better than we have done.
"Every game has been tough and we have had a lot of injuries and suspensions. It seems like every game we are missing a big player for one reason or another.
"That has made things difficult but we need to keep our confidence and keep working hard, because if we stop working then it will be very difficult to get up towards the top of the league again."
