Cabaye Salutes "Amazing" Fans

Yohan Cabaye has personally thanked the Newcastle supporters for their support following the final match of the season

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Yohan Cabaye has personally thanked the Newcastle supporters for their "amazing" backing throughout a mixed season in the Barclays Premier League.

Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Arsenal meant the Magpies finished 15th in the table but 52,354 loyal fans packed St. James' Park for the final game of the campaign.

In the 37th minute, they almost lifted the roof off the famous stadium with an emotional standing ovation for long-serving goalkeeper Steve Harper in his final match for United, then applauded the team on a lap of the pitch after the final whistle.

Few players were clapping back more loudly than Cabaye, who was substituted in the 57th minute of his 34th game of a long season, and he was keen to pay his own tribute when he spoke exclusively to the Club's official website.

"They were amazing again this season, even when we were in trouble," he told nufc.co.uk.

"Today there were 52,000 again. Even if we had gone down, I think there would still be 52,000 fans for every game.

"I'm sorry about this season for them and for me I'd like to thank them for their support because they were amazing."
