Boss: "We Just Couldn't Get The Goal"

Alan Pardew was disappointed with United's defeat against Swansea, but pleased with the performance of his young players

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Alan Pardew was full of praise for his young Newcastle United side, believing they just lacked a killer touch in the final third as the Magpies went down 2-1 at home to Swansea City.

United suffered back-to-back home defeats for the first time under Pardew's stewardship as Michu and Jonathan De Guzman fired the visitors ahead, before a late consolation from Demba Ba.

Despite dominating for spells, especially at the start of the second half, Newcastle were unable to break the deadlock and were made to pay by a clinical Swansea outfit.

And Pardew admits that with key, experienced players Fabricio Coloccini, Yohan Cabaye, Jonas Gutierrez and Papiss Cisse all missing for a variety of reasons, it was tough for his troops.

"Up until they scored I was in a fairly good mood," the boss told nufcTV.

"We had a young side out with a lot of experienced players missing, and we had a real good application to the game, a good shape to us and were putting good pressure on them.

"We created numerous chances but just couldn't get the goal, and I felt if we scored the goal then we would have been in a great position.

"Unfortunately they scored, and the period after that is where we lost a bit of confidence and shape. You would expect that from a young side and with what happened last week.

"I have no complaints about the performances today, but we need our best players and we have to try and bring them back."
