Bell Starts In England Win

Written by Newcastle Utd

United youngster Liam Bell helped England beat Wales in their Sky Sports Victory Shield opener on Friday evening

Liam Bell helped England under-16s get their Sky Sports Victory Shield campaign off to a winning start on Friday night.

The Magpies youngster started on the left hand side of midfield for Kenny Swain's Young Lions against Wales at Aggborough, the home of Kidderminster Harriers.

And he almost had an international debut to remember only to see a first-half goal disallowed for offside in the televised fixture.

England won 1-0, however, with Chelsea's Charlie Wakefield on target and Bell replaced at the break as every outfield substitute made an appearance.

And Alan Pardew will hope it's an omen for his side who are currently in Wales ahead of Saturday's game against Cardiff.
