Newcastle United youngster Sammy Ameobi has withdrawn from the England Under 21 squad with a hamstring injury.

The 20-year-old forward was last week named in manager Stuart Pearce's party for a friendly against Northern Ireland at Blackpool's Bloomfield Road on Tuesday night.

But Ameobi sustained the knock against Club Brugge in the Europa League and has been forced out of the international squad, along with Blackburn Rovers midfielder Jason Lowe, who is also injured.

The pair have been replaced by Sheffield United defender Harry Maguire and Leicester City striker Martyn Waghorn.

Magpies star Ameobi has two England Under 21 caps to his name, both coming in November 2011.
