Newcastle United Under-18s rounded off their 2022/23 Under-18 Premier League North campaign with a 2-1 away win against their Nottingham Forest counterparts on Saturday.
After a goalless first-half at the Nigel Doughty Academy, the young Magpies conceded two minutes after the restart following James Claridge’s glancing header.
Graeme Carrick’s side, however, responded positively and equalised in the 67th minute courtesy of Ciaran Thompson as the Blyth-born defender, who made his debut for the Magpies’ under-21 side in February, poked the ball home from close-range.
Newcastle’s youngsters took the lead in the 78th minute as Darren Palmer’s flashing header sealed the comeback victory, their first on away soil since February.
Following the completion of the 2022/23 season, United’s under-18s accrued a total of 24 points from 24 league fixtures, resulting in a 12th placed finish.
