The young Magpies had scored six goals without reply in their previous two matches, against Stoke City and Derby County, but found themselves 2-0 down at half time at Brockhall.

Evan Cunningham and Harry Leonard got the goals for the hosts and while Michael Ndwieni's fifth of the season halved the deficit early in the second half, United couldn't find an equaliser.
