Derby County Under-18s 3 Newcastle United Under-18s 1

Newcastle United Under-18s suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time since November as Morgan Whittaker struck a hat-trick for Derby County on Saturday.

Whittaker opened the scoring from the spot after 18 minutes, and added a quick-fire double early into the second half to all but end the game as a contest.

Substitute Thomas Cole pulled one back for the Magpies, but it was to prove little more than a consolation as Dave Watson’s side dropped two places in the North Division.

Another reverse ends United’s hopes of a top-half finish, with two games of the campaign left to play.

Watson’s charges visit Stoke City on Saturday, before rounding off the season at home to Middlesbrough six days later.

Newcastle United Under-18s: Otto Huuhtanen, Oisin McEntee, Oliver Walters, Deese Kasinga (Thomas Cole, 66), Matty Longstaff, Thomas Allan (Elias Sørensen, 46), Jack Young, Kelland Watts, Sam Joyce, Isaac Gamblin, George Roundsell.

Substitutes not used: Will Brown, Lucas Gamblin.
