Wolverhampton Wanderers U18s v Newcastle U18s

The Magpies had triumphed 4-1 at Little Benton in September but fell behind at the Sir Jack Hayward Training Ground on Saturday morning.

Austin Sannels gave the home side the lead shortly before half time, and with only one win in their previous seven outings it would have been easy for United heads to drop.

However, Dave Watson's side came out fighting in the second half and Kieren Aplin equalised just after the hour mark with a header.

Then Mace Goodridge scored what proved to be the winner four minutes later.

Watson handed a debut to recent signing Mo Sangare, while Lewis McNall made his return from injury.

And there was also an under-18s bow for Finnish goalkeeper Otto Huuhtanen, who replaced the injured Ben Smith in goal late on.

Newcastle's under-18s are next in action on Friday, when they travel to Portsmouth in the third round of the FA Youth Cup.

Newcastle United Under-18s: Ben Smith (Otto Huuhtanen 80), Craig Spooner, Owen Bailey, Lewis Cass, Kieren Aplin, Dan Lowther (Lewis McNall 45), Matty Longstaff, Mace Goodridge, Callum Smith, Mo Sangare, Owen Gallacher (Thomas Allan 75)

Subs not used: Oliver Long, Yannick Aziakonou
