Manchester United Under-18s 4 (Gomes, Gribbin pen, Bohui, Boonen)
Ten-man Newcastle United under-18s were beaten by their Manchester United counterparts at Little Benton on Saturday.
The Red Devils are second in the Premier League Under-18 North table, just behind rivals Manchester City, and showed why with an impressive display against Dave Watson's juniors.
Newcastle had completed a league double against the Reds - Marcus Rashford and all - last season, but rarely looked like repeating the feat this time around.
Angel Gomes gave the visitors a 34th-minute lead, leaving Nathan Harker with no chance, then doubled their advantage from the penalty spot two minutes later.
Lee O'Connor was fouled by Adam Wilson and Callum Gribbin converted from 12 yards.
Newcastle started the second half well but their rally was ended when Joshua Bohui finished off a good Manchester United move.
Then Mackenzie Heaney - whose form in recent weeks had been rewarded with an under-23s debut - was shown two quick-fire yellow cards to leave his side a man short for the final 20 minutes.
And Manchester United made their numerical advantage count in the 88th minute when substitute Indy Boonen scored.
Newcastle are back at Little Benton on Saturday, 19th November, when they entertain West Bromwich Albion (kick-off 11am).
