United's under-18s were beaten by Derby at Little Benton
Following United's FA Youth Cup win against Swansea five days earlier, Dave Watson made a handful of changes to his side.
But the Rams ran riot in the first half, with Jahvan Davidson-Miller, Micah Edwards, Cameron Cresswell and Jayden Mitchell-Lawson all on target.
Davidson-Miller opened the scoring in the 13th minute, then doubled their advantage less than a minute later as United failed to clear their lines allowing Edwards to strike beyond Ben Smith.
On 21 minutes, the score was 3-0 as Jayden Bogle's left-wing cross was met by Cresswell then six minutes later, Mitchell-Lawson ran through to slot the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
Newcastle were much-improved after the break, though, and pulled one back through Kelland Watts.
