United's under-18s beaten in Altrincham

The Red Devils had won by the same scoreline at Little Benton in November, but the Magpies looked determined to make up for that at the J. Davidson Stadium in Altrincham in front of the MUTV cameras.

However, after a bright start from Dave Watson's side, who were missing the likes of Lewis Gibson, Owen Bailey, Lewis McNall and Mackenzie Heaney, it was Manchester United who took the lead through Zachary Dearnley.

That gave the hosts a 1-0 half-time lead, but Aidan Barlow was to score three times in the second period.

His first came just after the hour mark as he forced the ball home after a goalmouth scramble, then Barlow converted from the penalty spot, picking himself up to convert after going down under Kieren Aplin's challenge.

And ten minutes from time, he completed his treble. It was the ninth time this season that Manchester United's under-18s have scored at least four goals in a game - but the third time in their last four league outings that Newcastle have conceded four.

The Magpies are at home to Sunderland on Valentine's Day. Kick-off at Little Benton is at 1pm and admission is free.
