The Magpies never looked back after Georgia Gibson gave them the lead midway through the first half, and Charlotte Potts quickly doubled their advantage.

Bridget Galloway made it 3-0 before half-time and Katie Barker and Cara Milne-Readhead completed the scoring in the second period, with 4,172 supporting the team at the stadium and thousands more watching the game live on NUFC TV. 

Galloway replaced Tyler Dodds in the only change to last weekend's 3-0 FAWNL Cup win over Nottingham Forest Women and she came close to opening the scoring in the eighth minute after Barker played her through, but her shot was deflected behind.

The resulting corner, taken by Emma Kelly, was met by the head of Potts but Rosie Embley made a brave block.

In the 16th minute, Stourbridge were almost presented with an opening when Grace Donnelly took a heavy touch from Amber-Keegan Stobbs' backpass allowing Ellie Butler to steal in, but Newcastle's defence was able to scramble clear. 

And within seconds, United were in front as Kelly found Barker, who cleverly laid the ball into the path of Gibson to find the net with a powerful and accurate shot. 

Three minutes later, Potts headed home from from a Kelly set-piece to put Newcastle firmly in the driving seat.

The excellent Elysia Boddy then saw a long-range shot fly narrowly over and a free kick cleared off the line before, in the 33rd minute, Galloway cut into the box from the left and but the ball back for Barker, whose shot was blocked. The ball came back to Galloway, but her strike cannoned back off the far post.

However Galloway didn't have to wait too long for her tenth goal of the season to arrive. Potts found Naomi Bedeau on the left and she stood up a cross for United's leading scorer to head past Jamie-Lee Bamford, the visiting goalkeeper.

With Langley's side now in total control, Bedeau, Potts and in-form Kacie Elson all had opportunities to add to Newcastle's lead before the break, then Barker, Galloway and Bedeau saw shots comfortably saved by Bamford at the beginning of the second half. 

Then, from a Galloway cross, Elson's effort was diverted onto the bar - but the Magpies made it 4-0 just before the hour.

Barker's clever turn took her away from Kelsey Richardson and the Newcastle number nine advanced before drilling the ball beyond Bamford.

Two substitutes combined for the fifth of the day, as Becky Ferguson teed up Milne-Redhead to score from distance, and there was still time for another sub, Anna Soulsby, to see a diving header ruled out for offside and for Ferguson to be denied by Bamford. Then Soulsby dragged another effort wide and Hannah Greenwood fired over. 

Supporters still had a bonfire night display to look forward to after the match at Kingston Park - included as part of the admission price - but the fireworks had already happened on the pitch as United kept the pressure on leaders Burnley Women with this five-star show.
