Newcastle United Women 5 Liverpool Feds 1

Newcastle United Women moved a step closer to clinching the FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division title with a professional 5-1 home win against Liverpool Feds in front of a record Kingston Park attendance of 4,256.

United were dominant from start to finish with Paige Bailey-Gayle's hat-trick stealing the show as Newcastle extended their winning run in the league to eight matches.

Further goals either side of half time from Hannah Greenwood and Jasmine McQuade helped to round things off for United, who have now just three games left to play.

United were relentless in the opening exchanges and were duly rewarded with a goal after eight minutes.

A long ball from Charlotte Potts unleashed Bailey-Gayle down the left and the Jamaica international drove into the box before firing hard and low into the far corner, sending a jam-packed Kingston Park wild.

Georgia Gibson almost scored a carbon copy goal of Bailey-Gayle's when she was picked out by Amber-Keegan Stobbs, but despite beating a defender, United's number ten sent her fizzing effort inches wide of the far post.

Bailey-Gayle doubled her tally for the afternoon just after the hour mark as she beat the offside trap before touching the ball past the onrushing Rachael Norney and left herself with the simple task of slotting home into an empty net.

Liverpool Feds were struggling to cope with Bailey-Gayle's runs in behind as she sprinted towards goal and took the ball down on her knee but could only curl a wild effort wide, denying her a first-half hat-trick.

Despite being pinned back for the majority of the first half, Feds almost halved the deficit in added time but Paige Cole could only send her effort looping over the bar from six-yards out.

The away side were soon ruing that missed opportunity because moments later Newcastle made it 3-0 through Greenwood. She found herself unmarked in the box and powered home a header from Elysia Boddy's pinpoint corner.

Bailey-Gayle finally got her hat-trick just five minutes into the second-half. Katie Barker managed to recycle the ball at the back post before laying it off to United's number 90, who took a touch before calmly slotting past Norney from close range.

The visitors got a goal back with just over 20 minutes to play when Aleesha Collins found herself one-on-one with Grace Donnelly and finished with ease, but United responded just minutes later.

A fantastic dinked ball from Stobbs allowed substitute McQuade to take a touch in the box and leave Norney with no chance as she slammed home to restore United's four-goal lead and secure all three points.
