It was another away fixture and another victory in the FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division for Newcastle United Women on Sunday, as Becky Langley's side put four past ten-player Huddersfield Town Women.

After Storm Babet had hit the region during the week, the Magpies were electrifying from the off at the Stafflex Arena, taking the lead after half an hour through Charlotte Potts.

The goals then poured in during the second half, with Kacie Elson, Becky Ferguson and Katie Barker all getting on the scoresheet as Langley's team continued their unbeaten start to the season.

Within just two minutes, the hosts were reduced to ten players when defender Olivia Harkness was dismissed for blocking Elson's shot with her arm following a foul on Bridget Galloway by Terriers goalkeeper Imogen Maguire.

Galloway stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick but saw her effort saved by Maguire.

United stopper Grace Donnelly was then called into action, thwarting Huddersfield's Yasmin Maguire to keep the score level.

Galloway had another opportunity soon after, with a neat flick, while Elson fired narrowly wide from a tight angle after being found in a dangerous position by Olivia Watt.

Langley's team continued to look to press home their numerical advantage and, following good play from Potts and Elson, Emma Kelly and Georgia Gibson saw shots blocked on the line in quick succession.

The pressure told on 32 minutes when Tyler Dodds delivered her corner to the feet of Potts. The centre-back faked past her marker with ease and fired the ball into the bottom corner to give Newcastle a deserved lead.

The Magpies didn't take their foot off the pedal, with Galloway being denied by Maguire to keep United's lead to just one goal at the break.

After being denied in the first half, Elson struck to double Newcastle's lead just eight minutes after the restart, looping a header into the back of the net after Gibson's pinpoint cross.

She almost had her second just moments later, but headed into the side netting after Dodds found her fellow winger at the back post.

Langley introduced Ferguson after 70 minutes and, just nine minutes after being substituted on, the striker got on the scoresheet.

Fellow substitute Jasmine McQuade did well to pinch back possession for the Magpies and found Ferguson at the back post, and the teenager fired home.

What was turning into a positive afternoon for Newcastle was marred somewhat in the latter stages, as defender Naomi Bedeau was forced off with a head injury.

But in injury time, substitute Barker put the ball in the net from close range to add further gloss to the win for the Magpies.

Langley's team continue to march on, and are yet to be defeated in 2023/24.
