Chorley Women 0 Newcastle United Women 5

Five-star Newcastle United Women are into the third round of the Adobe Women's FA Cup after a 5-0 triumph at Chorley Women on Sunday.

Goals from Katie Barker, Bridget Galloway, Elysia Boddy, Sharna Wilkinson and Becky Ferguson ensured an important win, on an afternoon that saw the Magpies lock horns with a side that they are familiar with from their time in the FA Women's National League Division One North.

Becky Langley made a raft of changes from the 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest Women last weekend but her side started the match with the same purpose as usual.

Ferguson and Anna Soulsby combined well on the edge of the area to create an opportunity for the former, but Chorley goalkeeper Emma Bradley did well to get down low and save.

Soulsby then found Barker from a wide position, but the Newcastle number nine fired over the crossbar.

Cara Milne-Redhead tried her luck next, before Jasmine McQuade had an effort blocked as the Magpies pushed for the opener.

McQuade then went close again, dancing past defenders before firing a shot that grazed the outside of the post.

Newcastle's pressure told on 36 minutes, when Ferguson recovered possession high up before feeding Barker, who made no mistake.

Galloway almost joined Barker on the scoresheet just moments after the second half began, but Bradley made an impressive full-stretch save to deny the United forward.

Bradley then stood in the way of Galloway once more, as the Magpies looked to press home their advantage.

McQuade fired wide again, before doing the same after Barker had an effort blocked in a dangerous position.

On 68 minutes, Galloway did find a way past Bradley, converting Soulsby's cross clinically.

As the match entered the closing stages, substitute Elysia Boddy made it 3-0 when her cross fortuitously took a deflection and went all the way into the back of the net.

With 84 minutes on the clock, Wilkinson scored her second direct free-kick of the campaign, powering a set-piece beyond Bradley, who could not react quick enough.

The Magpies were home and hosed, but that didn't stop Ferguson adding further gloss on the result, going through one-on-one and finishing calmly.

Newcastle are into the third round, and now must await Monday's draw to find out who they meet in the next stage of the competition.
