Newcastle United Women sailed into the first round proper of the Vitality Women's FA Cup on Sunday afternoon, putting 12 goals past Gateshead Rutherford Ladies at Kingston Park.

The Lady Magpies came flying out of the blocks, and didn't ease off, scoring seven in the first half and five in the second period.

Doubles apiece for Ellie Dobson, Georgia Gibson, Charlotte Potts and Katie Barker were supplemented by efforts from Beth Guy and Lauren Robson, and first Newcastle goals from Daisy Burt and Amy Hargrave, to seal United's place in the next round.

Becky Langley's side wasted no time imposing themselves on the visitors, who reside three divisions below the Lady Magpies, with Robson pouncing on a rebound to break the deadlock after just two minutes.

United continued to push, looking for a second in the opening stages, with Barker, Robson and Gibson all going close to doubling the lead.

But soon after, Potts arrowed an effort into the bottom corner after a Rutherford clearance, giving the goalkeeper no chance.

Dobson added her name to the scoresheet just after the half-hour mark, finishing clinically after an excellent run and cut-back from Barker.

Barker added a fourth just minutes later, tapping home following a wicked set piece which confused the Rutherford backline.

Potts got her second and Newcastle's fifth on 36 minutes when she was found expertly by Gibson's delivery and hammered home from close range.

Only two minutes after Potts bagged her brace, so did Dobson, firing home from just inside the area.

Gibson's deliveries caused the visitors problems throughout the first half, and with the break approaching the number ten got on the scoresheet herself. The midfielder picked the ball up on the edge of the box before unleashing an unstoppable effort into the back of the net.

Following the half-time break, the Lady Magpies continued to assert dominance, with Burt bagging her first goal in black and white by firing into the top corner from Robson's lay-off.

On the hour, Newcastle had nine. Guy timed her run to perfection to get onto the end of Gibson's centre, powering her header into the bottom corner.

And the Lady Magpies weren't done there, as Dobson turned provider to assist Gibson's second, with the number ten finishing expertly.

Soon after notching her second, Gibson bolstered her assist tally further, swinging in a superb corner which was fired home by substitute Hargrave, with the midfielder joining Burt in getting off the mark for Langley's side on Sunday.

With five minutes to go, Barker stepped up to take a penalty, after Becky Ferguson was taken down in the box, but the striker saw her spot-kick saved.

But in injury time, Barker did get her second of the match, finding the bottom corner after incisive link-up by Dobson and Ferguson resulting in a chance for the number nine.

This season, Langley has made no secret of her desire for the Lady Magpies to be ruthless in front of goal, and they certainly were in this fixture.

She will no doubt be hoping her players can carry that momentum into the next fixture: a home clash with third-placed Barnsley Women in the league on Sunday, 30th October.

Newcastle United Women: Grace Donnelly (c), Daisy Burt, Charlotte Potts, Emma Wallis, Keira Skelton (Jane Harland 76), Beth Guy (Amy Hargrave 62), Georgia Gibson, Lauren Robson (Becky Ferguson 62), Ellie Dobson, Lois Greenslade (Kacie Elson 46), Katie Barker
